Editorial Board

Editorial Board changes

Doctors John R. Benfield, Anthony R. C. Dobell, Hendrick B. Barner, Timothy J. Gardner, James E. Lowe, Douglas J. Mathisen, Philippe Menasché, Peter C. Pairolero, and Larry W. Stephenson rotated off the Editorial Board at the January 2001 meeting of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) in New Orleans. Drs Benfield and Dobell served The Annals for over two decades each, both as Editorial Board members and Associate Editors. All of the retiring Board members have contributed greatly to the success of the journal, and their fair and dedicated service to The Annals is much appreciated by the STS, the Editorial Office, and all of our readers and contributors.

Other changes in the Editorial Board include new roles for some veteran members of the Board. Dr W. Gerald Rainer, a 14-year member, becomes Associate Editor for "Our Surgical Heritage." Dr William A. Gay, Jr, a Board member for 12 years, is now Associate Editor for Language. Reviews and Updates have been consolidated under Associate Editor Dr Richard J. Novick. Dr Thomas W. Shields continues as Book Review editor; Dr Juan Rosai remains Associate Editor for Surgical Pathology. Dr Tom Karl continues as Internet Editor, but also assumes new responsibilities.

The Annals is pleased to announce the appointment of fifteen new members to the Board as of January 28, 2001.

Drs Buxton, Calafiore, del Nido, He, Heitmiller, Hoover, Kanter, Matsuda, Mickleborough, Mohr and Wood are joining the Editorial Board and will concentrate on original manuscripts. Dr Gary Grunkemeier becomes Associate Editor for Statistics. Dr Tom Karl and three newBoard members, Drs Joseph H. Gorman III, Robert C. Gorman and Joseph B. Shrager, assume advisory editorial responsibilities for Case Reports, How to Do It articles and Images in Cardiothoracic Surgery (see following editorial [Ann Thorac Surg 2001;71:1407–8]).
