Editorial Board

Editorial board changes

Doctor J. Kent Trinkle died in September of last year. Kent was a member of the Editorial Board of The Annals for 15 years, and Associate Editor for 8 years, first in charge of Book Reviews, and later the Section on Collective and Current Reviews. Kent devoted a great deal of time and effort to improving The Annals, and for this we are grateful beyond measure. We shall miss him as an Editorial Board member, but much more as a superb human being (Fig. 1).

Doctor Jaroslav Stark left the Editorial Board after seven years of service. We will miss his many contributions to the peer review process. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Editorial Office are very much in his debt (Fig. 2).

To cope with the increasing volume of manuscripts being received each year, it is necessary to increase the size of the Editorial Board from 38 to 39 members. The Annals is pleased to announce the appointment of these two individuals to the Editorial Board (Figs. 3, 4).

In October 1998, Dr Juan Rosai was appointed Associate Editor of The Annals. Dr Rosai is the chairman of the Department of Pathology and holds the James Ewing Chair in Pathology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He will serve as consultant in surgical pathology for The Annals. The addition of Dr Rosai to our already outstanding Editorial Board will provide a greater dimension of quality assessment for articles on general thoracic surgical topics.
