Dacron graft replacement of the ascending aorta for thoracic dissections
often results in major intraoperative or postoperative hemorrhage due to
tissue tearing at the suture lines. We report a promising solution to this
problem: strengthening the aortic wall with glutaraldehyde solution. Using
this technique, we obtained a tough, resistant tissue that could be sutured
without disintegration. We have used the method successfully in 5
consecutive patients.
