Sympathectomy has been used as treatment for several different cardiac
conditions. These include classic angina pectoris, Prinzmetal's angina,
paroxysmal atrial tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, and long QT
syndrome. To understand the rationale of such treatment, the innervation of
the human heart is reviewed with discussion of the cardiac plexus and
coronary innervation. Results in published studies are summarized and
discussed.
